Shakedown cruise 2008 was a success.....fished with a few friends and other capitan's from my marina, boxed 5 fish and let another grow up in a mornings fishing. Also lost 5 or 6 . Surface planers with j-11 rapalas in various colors did the trick as with a few bites on riggers and divers. Nothing on the cores for us today. Various spoons, copper b,mixed veggies and moonshines all got bit !

The Kings are here !!! Also found bait in all the fish...which is a great sign.

Plenty of open dates....give me a call and lets get on the water !!

May 5 2008

The boat is in and ready to fish !!!

Shoreline browns and lake trout are providing some great action! Fish shallow with long leads and planer boards to get the rods bent ! A few kings have been caught in Ludington and those numbers should improve everyday as the water warms and more guys begin fishing and looking for the big spring kings !

Call us for a day or two on the water !

There is a lot of buzz in the charter industry about gas prices forcing us to raise the price of charters this summer.I have not yet decided if I am going to raise the prices, I will try not to but it may be something we have to do.

If you book now with a paid deposit I will lock you into the current rates.

March 30 2008

Well winter has finally passed us by for the most part and spring is trying to get here. I am still currently guiding for steelhead on Michigand trout streams but the "Hattrick" will be in the water in about 4 or 5 weeks ready for the assult on the big water. I am getting calls for summer trips and some of the prime days are booking up. Now would be a good time for you to call me and get a day or two set up for the summer. The fishing forcast is still expected to be a great year like the last two.

September 3rd

Well the season on the big lake for me is wrapped up, Tuesday Sept. 4 marks the beginning of the river season.

The fishing out of ludington again this year remained excellent with great people to fish with and lots of hungry fish. I would personally like to thank everyone that helped make this season a great one aboard the "Hattrick". I hope to see you all next season.

The fishing on the lake remains great with plenty of 4 yr olds and lots of 2-3 yr olds to be caught.

Please visit us at www.riversbendguideservice.com for more great fishing trips and current river reports thru the spring.

See you all next spring

August 28th

The fishing has remained AWESOME !! Lots of big hungry kings on all trips. The shallow water plug bite has been great in the am, along with spinnies and flies. Pretty much anything that glows is getting hammered in the morning. The bite has lasted for an hour or two then it does get a little harder. Afternoon charters are giving up similar results with a good steady pace to the bite. Look for the fishing to remain strong for a few more weeks for the adults. We still have some openings including labor day weekend.

August 11th

Sorry for the lapse, I have been away from the computer for the last several days. The report is that the fishing is EXCELLENT !! The morning bite has been fast and furious on my boat with early limits, doubles, triples and quadruples going in the dark ! Lots of big Kings and big Cohos ! Best lures have been green, white, black rotators with green, mirage and pickled sunshine flies doing the best. Cut bait on big flashers on low divers and cores have been hot ! Jplugs in green glow and wonder-bread have also been getting bit. We have a few afternoons open this next week and the afternoon bite has been great with a good steady bite ! Get a fish reset the rod and another is going shortly. Some morning openings after the 21 st. Call us to get on the water and have a ball on the Hattrick. Pictures coming soon.

August 6th

The fishing in Ludington is right on schedual. Lots of big Kings with a mix of very nice Coho's also. There seem to be fish from Pentwater to Manstee. The morning bite has been very good with fast limits if you set down on the fish. The daily program has been pretty much a heavy spread of spinnies and flies in greens, and mirage with white spinnies edging out black and green. A few plug fish also. Moonshine spoons in happy meal and mongolian beef. Still openings in mornings and afternoons.

July 29th

Fished the same water we fished on Sat. am, and the fish had scattered. We took 12 bites and landed 4 kings and 2 steelies. Not the best but still a great morning on the water with a great group of guys. Most other boats struggled also, NE winds Sat night didnt help. White spinnies, pickled sunshine, black slick glow with mirage flies, Ace high plugs, moonshine spoons were getting bit.

July 28th

Fast and furious !!!! We boated 16 fish and were in the slip at 930 am, lotsa bites and big kings filled the box ! Easily the best catch on the "Hattrick" in 2007. Had to take half of the fish out just to get the cooler off the boat. Fished the top of the bank 59'-s to the 02's between the 31's and 32's.Spinnies in , black slick glow mirage flies, white slick glow and pickled sunshine flies. moonshine spoons and Ace high double glow spoons were HOT ! Meat rigs did plenty of damage also, green rotators were the best.

July 27th

Fished north again, We manged 5 in the boat and lost plenty, very shy fish today. Meat rigs with red heads were going well. White slick glow with green flies and black slick glow with mirage flies were good also. Stinger lemon ice and mixed veggies were hit also.Plenty of traffic today.

July 26th

Fished the bank this morning. We limited on our 12 kings early and took a couple extras. Black and glow spinnies with mirage and green flies did the damage, along with a few on double glow ace highs.A nice morning with the cloud cover keeping the bite ON !

July 25th PM Trip

Finally got my sister and niece on the water. Very similar baits worked. We took a nice steelie, several kings and a coho or two during the afternoon trip. The water had moved from the morning and the fish seemed to scatter.Still a perfect day on the water with family

July 25th

Another great trip with the young men from Mystic Lake YMCA. These trip are always a blast with the young guys. We had a slower start but once we dialed them in we had it fast and furious.Fished the bank and took only one steelie, but then went a little south and deeper and did well. Chrome and blue spin doctors, blue slick glow fishcatchers and blue flies were hot in the sun. Best spoon was a Mag Stinger Lemon Ice.The steelies came on Stinger Blue Dolphin, and Steelie Stomper.

July 20th-22nd

Gander mountain tourney, I was unable to fish this great event due to a snapped shaft on Friday....arrgghhh... The fishing was very spotty with some boats finding them and others not, due to the strong north winds on Thursday. There was a good mix of salmon and trout at the weigh in on Saturday.

July 18th

After a late start we managed to get some fish in the high morning sun. Setting lines at 8 am is not the best time but we made the most of it with a great group of young men from "Mystic Lake YMCA camp" Stinger lemon ice, mixed veggies and DOC were our hot spoons.Fishcatchers with flies in greens and mirage took a few hits also.Straight out and south between the 35's and 39's.

July 15th

A great day on the water ! The wind and waves have settled down and the fishing fleet was out in full force. We fished north on the bank and took fish from th 01's to the 04's. right along the bank. Moonshing spoons in the an and stinger lemon ica after the sun got up. flashers and flies in greens and whites were ok too. Meat rigs on low wires and 300' copper did some dammage too.Fish moved deeper as expected from the high south winds yesterday. Took fish out of temp in the morning and fish moved deeper as the morning progressed. 45'-115' down.

July 14th

BIG WAVES...... Moved todays trip to sunday due to 5-7 foot waves.

July 13th

Had a fantastic day on the water with the Boggart group. A great group of serious fisherman,we never loos a hooked up fish. Landing 2 tripples and maybe a double or two. Several fish in the mid teens made a great catch on the Hattrick ! Very spunky fish had one rip almost 500 feet of wire on the first run! Hot baits today were Stinger lemon ice,NBK,moonshine spoons and meat rigs with green flashers and glow heads. Also Fishcatchers in tuxedo and green slick glow with mirage and green flies. Full cores and divers back 120 on wire and high divers with mountain dew rotators and lemon ice flies back 125 were also good.Riggers 45-70 down.

July 12th

Tried to make a day on the water but due to rough seas my customers decided to return to port after only setting a few rods. 3-5 foot from the west is very hard to fish without a iron stomach for most. The boats that did fish did well north.

July 7th

Not so Lucky for the fish in Ludington. We fished the bank today,it was very very busy. The action was pretty steady but the fish did seem to be in pockets. Lots of traffic spread the fish early. Stinger SOG,mixed veggies and jawbreaker did the damage, along with moonshine mongolian beef. Meat rigs on the low wires produced a few big kings as well. Fish were taken from the surface down to 62 feet.Look for the stable warmer weather to set up the thermocline and concentrate the fish.

July 1st

Went north to the point today.....between ludington and the point the water is chilly 40 degrees in July?? We managed to find a few pockets of fish and took a dozen hits on a good mix of stinger spoons double orange crush, mixed veggie, steelie stomper and the NBK, Hot spinnies were the tuxedo rig with a mirrage fly and whie slick glow with a STS green glow martian. Good numbers of fish sitting in the top 25 feet. Look for this weeks south winds to help set the water up.

June 30th

Today was very hit and miss, If you were in the right pocket you did well. We only managed a couple fish today but they were nice adult kings in the mid teens. Stinger mixed veggies and stinger holly christmas did what little damage we did....Several days of north winds have scattered the fish.

June 29th

After a Strong North blow we decided to set up in front of the pier heads. We took several adult kings and 2 nice browns in a few hours also throwing lots of small ones back for next year. Hot baits were stinger NBK on cores, stinger killer bee,and stinger mixed veggies. Also a couple fish early on moonshines and rotators and flies.

June 28th

We met up with Keith Barber from "Hunters Exchange" to film some summer salmon fishing...well shortly after leaving the dock he had realized that the camera was having technical difficulties and we were unable to film, This didn't keep the fish from biting. With the North winds I chose to go to the point and set up at the nets and troll south. It was fast and furious for the first couple hours with most of the fish pushing into the teens. We fished until about 830 and pulled lines dues to 3-5 foot waves. Flashers and flies along with meat rigs did most of the damage. The hot rigger spoons were stinger NBK and monkeyshine.

June 24th

Am charter we fished the point today and had a great steady morning bite. Although the size wasn't there we did get enough eaters. Stinger mixed veggies, lemon ice and dbl orange crush.Mostly on 1/2 cores and divers today.
