After a very long week and tougher fishing than we are used to last week, the fishing has greatly improved this week.

From Pentwater to Manistee the fishing was great the last few days. Big Kings, Cohos,Steelhead and even a few lake Trout are being caught.

Meat rigs have been hot !! Rigers, divers, coppers...all loaded with meat rigs are producing.

If you have not tried the Familiar bite meat strips, you are missing out! Perfect cuts, durable, real herring!

Ace Hi glo plugs have been going well in the dawn and dusk hours.

I still have a couple morning openings available if you are looking Aug 26,28

As well as openings for guided salmon and steelhead trips on West Michigans prime rivers for September through December. I begin guiding on the river September 5

Aug 10 2014

We have been very busy the last ten days or so.....We still have openings, don't hesitate to call.

the fishing early last week was great....big kings and there seemed to be plenty of them...by weeks end and over the weekend they moved and we could not find them.

The best king bite was at first and last light on the bank and inside 100' fow.

Offshore fishing for steelhead, lake trout and a few salmon was my best fishing.

hot rigs...

various copper lines from 50'-300' spoons up high, meat rigs down deep.

downriggers early and divers were hot at times and ice cold others.

Hot spoons were silver streak minis in mixed veggies, double Dutch, jerry lee and orange chilly willy, Yeck fire ball, stinger goldie locks, double orange crush.

Meat rigs...all over the board, show time,Kevin's girlfriend, life's good spin doctors all baited with the familiar bite herring. The best meat bite was early and late.

Todays big blow from the north should mix things up.

July 29 2014

We have openings this weekend !

The fishing over the last few days has been hit or miss for this time of year. Fish are being caught on all of our charters.

The fish have been scattered due to the ever changing wind directions, one day it blows from the north, then several days of good winds from the south. The fishing starts to stabilize....then it blows from the north and scatters the fish again. There are a few areas that the fish are concentrated, but those spots change almost daily.

Hot spoons

Silver stream mini's in- mongoose,Jerry Lee,double dutch and carmel dolphin

Stinger goldielocks. double orange crush

Meat rigs- showtime with cold steel, blue and yellow sparkler with UV teaser rigs,

Black flashers with green flies

Give us a call and lock in a day on the lake!

July 21 2014

If you are looking for a Saturday morning charter, the only Saturday AM charter I have left is August 2. I do still have a few Sunday am charters available. Weekday openings are also available.

The Tournament is over and info will flow a little more freely in Ludington.

Over the weekend the best "charter" fishing was offshore...A mixed bag of Kings, Coho's, Steelhead and Lake Trout. The key was to fish the temp breaks...either the edge of the cold and warm, or try to stay in the cold.

Flat lines and short coppers were best with silver streak mini streaks in orang crush, Jerry Lee, mixed veggie and chilli goose. Stinger goldie locks were also hot.

Meat rigs with white flashers and Ok'i Kingfisher flashers in the black mamba with cold steel or red teasers and red bait heads were good deeper for kings. I only run the Familiar Bite herring strips. They are the best on the market.

July 13 2014

We do have openings this weekend for those looking to get on the big lake...the weather this week looks great, perfect for fishing!!!

We are rolling into tournament weekend here in Ludington, so info will be a little harder to get.

The fishing over the weekend was good for a mixed bag of fish. There seemed to be fish nearshore and off shore with no real area producing many big fish. But a good mix of Kings from 6-16 lbs and Steelhead and Lake trout of mixed sizes.

The offshore fishing has been in the top 40' nearshore top to bottom.

July 9 2014

In an effort to fill the books a bit more, we are running a couple of JULY specials, please contact us for more information on July fishing charters!!

The fishing in Ludington has improved the last few days, it looks as if we may have made it through our late "June" slow down. With the cooler spring eveything seems to be a couple weeks behind. But it looks as if that is behind us, the stable weather pattern we are in for the next ten days should help as well.

Pretty typical baits are producing.

Spoons in oranges up high for steelhead and young salmon

Darker spoons fished deeper and on long coppers for mature kings

Meat rigs baited with the Familiar bite herring strips. Brighter flashers and teaser rigs have been best when its been sunny. Whites have been good most days as well as greens. Glow teaser heads have been best.

Be ready to adjust your spred based on water temps and light conditions.

June 30 2014

We still have openings for this coming holiday weekend, both am and pm openings available.

The fishing in Ludington has been a little hit and miss for the last week or so. Our inshore fishing slowed last week due to the winds moving the water. The fsh scattered. The offshore fishing was just getting set up. Although it was way offshore. There were good numbers of steelhead, lake trout and salmon out there. Mostly a spoon program with high lines and short coppers and leadcore working best.

Now we have several days of south winds, this should set up the bank and hopefully create a thermocline and concetrate the bait. The Salmon fishing should be better this week. Load up the meat rigs and flashers if this happens. The fish should be down 70' plus by mid week.

June 20 2014

THe great fishing in Ludington continues. I have been on the river guiding for smallmouth bass and trout on and off between fishing the lake. The fishing everywhere has been unreal this year. I dont think I have heard of a bad report on either inland lake, river or big lake this season.

The fishing has just been GREAT this year!!!

Its still a mixed bite in Ludington, spoons and meat rigs are getting bit.

Brighter spoons fished in the top 50'

Greens and blues fished 50-75'

Meat rigs fished 40-90' down baited with the new and improved Familiar bite premium herring strips. The fish dont seem to picky on colors on the meat rigs.

June 2 2014

The fishing has been great on the lake for the last few weeks.

There seems to be fish everywhere, up and down the coast. Its been a mix of spoons and meat rigs for the most part. Spoons in brighter hotter colors in the top 50' and meat rigs fished lower. With the water temps cold top to bottom the fish are spread out.

Its time to get those trips booked for the summer...all signs point to a much better summer than last year. Lets fish!!

May 27 2014

The new and improved Hattrick is in the water and is ready to fish. I have upgraded my boat this season to a 31' Tiara. The fishing the last few weeks in Ludington has been great, with good catches of Kings, a few browns and a few steelhead. Now is the time to get your summer trips booked.

See you on the water.....

May 21 2014

Well its official, the "Hattrick" has been upgraded...I started a very long and winding journey mid winter, looking for a new boat for my charter business...after a few long stressfull months filled with boat shopping and such, my new boat arrived in Ludington this week. Its a 31' Tiara open. The boat should be in the water this weekend and  few days of fine tuning and loading all the tackle on board it will be ready to fish this coming week...Its going to be a great summer on the lake.

The fishing is going very well up and down the lake with mixed catches of Salmon and trout coming in...its time to get those trips on the books.

Jan 29 2014

Yes its still winter, but now is the time to get things booked for this coming summer. July and August dates go fast,so its never to early to get your favored dates lined up.

Im looking forward to spring in the worst way this year, this winter has been brutal to say the least. Very long, very cold, very boring. Ths is usually my favorite time to fish the rivers for winter Steelhead, but even that has been tough to do with the weather we have had.

So...I have been spending more time thinking about spring and summer fishing on the big water.

2013 provided us with some of the bigest fish we have seen in some time....lets all hope we see some of those bruisers this coming season.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the water this summer.

Sept 5 2013

I would like to thank everyone that fished with me on the lake this summer, and those that called but could not get a trip with me. Without your continued support I would not be able to do what I love to do for a living.

My season is already over on the big lake, it went way too fast. It was an interesting year for sure with all the big fish around this year, though numbers were down.

On August 23rd the largest king ever boated on the Hattrick came aboard, weighing in at 31 lbs

On Auust 24 the largest Coho ever boated on the Hattrick came aboard, weighing in at 20.68lbs.

Im already looking forward to next year, until then I will be busy guiding clients on the rivers of West Michigan rivers for Salmon and Steelhead. If your looking to get on the rivers please give me a call. For more info you can check out my other web site @ www.riversbendguideservice.com

Aug 22 2013

Day off today...

The fishing was gaining momentum through last weekend..then a slight setback, but it looks to be getting back on track now.

There seem to be decent numbers of big Cohos around, a few steelhead and mature Kings as well. The best King bite has been early and late, this could be due to the full moon phase that we are in. It seems that the fish may be feeding through the night.

Hot baits have been

Glow plugs early and late.

Flashers and meat are taking the large majority of the kings and cohos after the early bite. I have been running the FB herring strips for the last two years now and they continue to impress me as far as ease of use, product quality and the fact...that the fish love them!

Hot spoons have been mini streaks in mixed veggie, orange crush, lemon ice and dolphins.

Aug 5 2013

Still plenty of openings for summer salmon charters!!!

Day off today....

The fishing in Ludington hasnt been as good as last year for sure....but we are still getting into some nice fish this year for sure. The Kings are running on the large size this year. Many fish north of 22 lbs are being caught daily. Some even topping 30 lbs.

There have been fish both north and south as well as way offshore. The best fishing locations have been changing almost every few hours,as the water has been moving all summer due to the constantly changing winds and currents.

Best baits...

Mag silver streak dolphins, grindstone water mellon, chilly willys in green.

Reg silver streak dolphins, yellow tails, orange chilly willys

Stinger new UV blue magic,Salmon viagra, black tuxedo

Glow plugs by Ace high

Spindoctors and meat rigs in various colors, although blues and greens have been the most consistent. Baited with FB herring strips.

July 18 2013

A little time today for a better update....

The best fishing has been offshore quite a ways. It has been mostly a spoon bite. Silver streak minis and reg size spoons, the bait is mostly on the small size. Dbl orange crush, orange crush, fireball, steelie stomper as well as a few of the stinger uv series spoons. Meat rigs fished deeper on long coppers, low divers and chute riggers. White flashers with FB herring strips.

You owe it to yourself to check out the Familiar Bite Herring strips, the best cut bait on the market. Uniform cuts make tuning the bait head simple.

The fishing north on the bank has been better for those looking for bigger kings, but less numbers.

This is tournament weekend, so expect traffic to be higher and info harder to come by.

Still plenty of openings in the coming weeks. Give us a call email or text for more info.

July 15 13

Just a quick update....the fishing has been pretty good as of late. Both north, south and out deep have been producing pretty well. Tons of cohos around, kings and steelhead as well.

Hot setups

White and blue bubble spinnies with FB herring strps on wires and long coppers.

Orange dodgers with small flies

Typical orange spoons fished high in the water.

We still have openings for this coming weekend....give us a call.

June 28 2013

Finally, we are moving into a summer pattern on the lake....

We have openings this weekend!! Lets go fishing !!

The fishing this week in Ludington has improved!! Not huge catches yet, but decent fishing can be had. The "bank" has been loaded with fish and TONS of bait. Most of the bait has left the harbor and the fish are acting like they are just too full! The fishing should continue to improve as the bait spreads out into the lake.

Mostly Kings and a few coho are being caught. The Adult Kings are running very big !!!

Hottest rigs have been meat rigs, both 8-11 inch flashers, with teaser rigs baited with the Familiar bite herring strips.

June 25 2013

Finally...constant south-southwest winds for several days has warmed out water in Ludington. The fishing is turning on...

The fishing is showing signs of gaining traction as the Kings are moving back in looking to pile on a few more pounds this summer. THere are pockets of fish in the area and the warmer waters are helping to concentrate them even more. Find the bait...the fish are close by. Look for a more normal pattern to set up in the coming days and the fishing should be just fine for now...Hopefully the North winds stay away for a while and let our water set up.

Meat rigs and glow spoons have been the best. Be safe on the water.

June 19 2013

Well......I wish I could report that the fishing has gotten better...but..it hasn't.

The constantly changing winds the last 6 weeks have not let the lake set up. Last week the water was 40 degrees in front of Ludington. Thats about as cold as it usually is in March/April !!!! Arghhh!!!!

There was decent fishing out deep for a few days, but the fish seemed to have scattered there as well...

The forecast is finally going to change in a few days and that should really help. Temps forecasted into the 80's will get things warmed up and the fishing should be fine in a few days. Water temps have warmed up into the upper 40's low 50's. Im really looking forward to the great fishing when it returns...The fish are very nice this year, big fat healthy fish...

Right now the best options are to fish mostly in the top 40 foot. with spoons and run a couple meat rigs down deeper for the Big mature Kings and Lake trout.

The best spoons have been oranges and yellows up high, with more greens and blues down low. White flashers and meat rigs as well as the DW showtime have been the hot flashers on my boat, baited with the Familiar bite herring strips.

June 11 2013

We have openings this weekend!!!! Take your FATHER fishing....Fathers day is this Sunday!!

Finally a nice weekend to get my charters on the lake...The fishing was a little slower than desired but we caught enough fish to keep everyone pretty happy ,combined with a very calm lake, decent temps and plenty of laughs....everyone had a great time.

Although fish numbers arent what we would like right now...I have had plenty of charters over the years that we have caught more fish....and plenty that have caught less fish.

A good week or two of soilid south to south west winds would really help, the recent pattern has been to get a day or two of south winds followed by several days of north winds...cooling the water and scattering the fish and bait.

The fish were coming 40-80 down on cut bait rigs baited up with the Familiar Bite herring strips. These are by far the most superior herring strips on the market. They are firm and all cut the same, this makes tuning and rigging a breeze.

The new Stinger UV spoons were also good on divers and riggers, glow spoons early and late were good as expected.

Give us a call or fire us an email or text for more info or to set up a trip.

May 28 1013

Big Kings...... thats the word on the lake this spring...Got out this past weekend and had a decent morning putting several nice high teens kings, one right at 20 lbs and a decent steelhead in the box. The biggest problem is that our weather patterns have been all mixed up, just when the lake starts setting up and the fish start snappng we have gotten big NORTH blows and this cools the water and scatters the fish.

Remember these early kings are big time eaters...when the water is stabill the baitfish tend to move in and group up more bringing the kings to the dinner table...big winds and strong currents scatter the bait and the predator fish as well... Stable warmer weather with several days of south winds will really help the Ludington area.

Meat rigs, flasher flies and mag glow spoons have been going the best. The fish are scattered top to bottom right now so dont be afraid to drag your stuff right near the bottom.

Lets go fishing !!!!

May 20 2013

KIngs...Kings....Kings !!!!

Finally....our summer fishing is taking off....after some pretty decent Brown trout fishing the last few weeks, we are finally seeing some nice Spring KINGS! There have been a few Lake trout and steelhead around also.

The water is still pretty cold top to bottom,so it pays to spread your presentations around. Meat rigs and flies have been good for the Kings as well as Mag spoons. Body baits on the beach for the Browns.

FYi....there have been many reports from the lake of Kings pushing over 20lbs...could be an interesting summer for sure.

We have openings this week and over the Memorial day weekend...call,text or email for more info.

May 7 2013

The hattirck is in the water and ready to go !!!!

We will begin our fishing for the season later this week, lots of choices right now....shoreline fishing for Brown trout and Lake trout. or offshore for spring Kings ??

Either one is a great choice, recent reports of great action moving its way up the lake shore, the Salmon fishing should really take off this week as calm seas and warmer temps allow the water temps to warm up.

Now is a great time to get your fishing plans locked in....looking forward to another great season in Ludington.
