Wow...already February !!

In less than three months the "HATTRICK" will once again be in the water ready to fish!  This season should fish really close to last year, with good catches and bigger fish! Its never too soon to call to book a day or two on the lake with us.

See you on the water !

Sept 7 2009

Am openings on Sept 9,10

Well..... not much has changed....except that the fishing has gotten a little tougher with the clam seas, recent full moon and lack af the slightest bit of wind.

Big fish, heavy coolers and tons of fun on the big lake right now. There seems to be very few fish pushing thru the pier heads right now,the water is just too warm.Look for the fishing to stay very good on the lake for the next couple weeks. I myself only have untill Sept 10 to fish the lake then its off to the river for the next several months. www.riversbendguideservice.com

Glow plugs, meat rigs, flashers flies....spoons...its all working right now!

Aug 25 2009

Morning openings on  Aug 30,Sept 1,2,3, Afternoon trips also available.

This past weekend brought lots of WIND to ludington, this kept me from running several charters....its just not fun fishing in 5-8' seas. It also brought a big change in the water. The fish moved a bit and it took the fleet a day to locate them once we were able to get on the water.

Sunday morning's trip was tough, only a few bites, but Sunday nights trip was much better with 9 fish in the box by evenings end. The morning was a searching mission for most,as the conditions had not allowed for much fishing days prior. Monday was the best morning bite I have had this year, we boxed a dozen fish by 8:15 am and had a couple of young fishers that were ready to go in and get their feet on solid ground.

Just about everything is working..

glow plugs, moonshine spoons, mag silver streak hot lobster is still killing a few in the early morning. flasher and flies.....greens turned on along with blacks still getting it done.

Aug 19 2009

Things continue to go well in Ludington this week. The fishing has been fairly consistent with good to great catches. This week we have seen the return of some very nice adult Kings to the mid 20's !! There are some huge coho's also pushing double digits as well as steelhead and lake trout.

Hot baits

Meat rigs with black, white blades with glow tape and either red or white glow teasers and matching heads.

Moonshine spoons in various patterns,Silver streak Mag hot lobster has been strong too

Flashers and flies also getting it done on deep riggers and divers.

August 16 2009

Due to cancelation I have Aug 19,20 open as well as am trips available on the 21st,23rd,25th,31st. As well as afternoon trips are also available.

The fishing still continues to be good to really good depending on where you set up each day. The most consistent seems to be straight out in the 36-39 line, but the bank has also been going first thing in the am. The morning bits has not been fast and furious as af late, more or less a steady bite on my boat. none the less we are coming in with some really nice fish each day.

Hot baits...

Meat rigs have been great ! black, white blades with glow tape. Moonshine spoons first thing in the am on high divers and riggers, Big tomic plugs in glow green splatter. Yeck mag spoons and silver streak mag spoons esp. the hot lobster ! that spoon has been hot on my 300' copper.

August 13 209

The  fishing the last few days has been awesome !! although the fish are still deep, the bite is ON!! I have been running alot of meat rigs and slamming the fish on them off the riggers, divers and 400' copper rigs.

Look for things to stay pretty consistent from here out,as it is time for the kings to return to stage off their spawning rivers.

We still have some prime openings..... please call us to get a day on the water with us. 231.250.9745

Aug 9 2009

We have openings ****Aug 15-18 ****then a few others scattered here and there, Afternoon trips are also available

The fishing in Ludington continues to follow a typical August pattern... Though the fish were a bit moody earlier in the week, most likely due to the full moon and clear skies allowing the fish to feed day and night. There have been good numbers of bait in the area and the fish have been munching down on magnum alwives.

There has been good fishing both north on the bank and south all the way to little point. Dont be afraid to fish DEEP !!! Many fish coming well over 100' down.

Hot baits....

Glow spoons, glow plugs, glow flashers - flies ! pretty basic.....put it down if it glows !! and let the fish tell you what they want.

Hot spoon of the day was a Mag silver streak hot lobster, hot flasher...green slick glow, green flies, wonderbread double glow ace highs are also hot !

Aug 2 2009

We still have open days on both weekdays and weekends, call soon to get on the water with us ! 231.250.9745

The fishing in Ludington continues to be right on track !

Good numbers of really nice King Salmon and some really nice Coho 's as well. The best fishing continues to be north along the bank up to the point. The fish are feeding in 50-60 fow in the early hours and quickly heading deep as fishing pressure assends on them.

FYI... the bite have been very concentrated as of late.... when they want to feed they feed very heavily...and then shut off like a switch. The first and last hour of light has been the best by far.

Hot baits have been

Moonshine spoons in various colors, green spin doctors and fish catchers with green flies, glow plugs in the am on high divers and cores, meat rigs with glow heads and teasers. and small silver streak flodgers on the highs after the sun gets up with aqua flies.

July 31 2009

Its the end of July and the fishing is as it should be......except for one thing !

The fish are BIG .... this past weekend I re spooled with heavier line and even put a bigger cooler in the boat ! The fishing from here out should remain great !!

Big heavy boxes, great crews and kings pushing 20lbs and tearing up our tackle was the norm this weekend! The best bite has still been first thing in the morning and as the sun sets in the evening most days.

Silver Streak mini flodgers on high divers during the high sun were good for late biters. We ran the flies about 22 inches behind these and they were getting smoked!

Glow plugs, moonshine spoons, and flashers in green, white, black with pickled sunshine and blue bubble flies were the hot baits !

If you are looking to get on the water please call us we still have openings in August and even a few weekend trips still open.

July 20 2009

Prime time is here....please call us to get a day on the water !

Cell 231.250.9745

The fishing over the weekend continued to puzzle some, but others did very well. We did very well an all my trips considered. The key is still to get out early !!! The big kings have been very active early and then seem to shut down and it goes from a wack fest to a slow pick for fish after 7 am. The evening bite has been similar...slow starts and then a great bite as the sun is setting. The fishing straight out from ludington and to the north seems to be more consistant.

The lake was very busy as this past weekend was the big tournament in ludington and I am sure that the pressure on the fish did not help the bite. Things should settle down this week and we should see some great fishing in the upcoming weeks.

Hot setups were...

White blades with glow tape-blue bubble flies

black blades with glow teasers, glow bait heads were great on divers first thing in the am

Several moonshine spoons also did well in the early am.

July 13 2009

WE HAVE OPENINGS THIS WEEK AND THIS WEEKEND ! THE FISHING IS TAKING OFF AND THE BIG KINGS ARE BACK !

Call 231.250.9745 to set up a trip.

The fishing continues to be kinda hit n miss...from day to day. The biggest factor has been due to the weather....lack of warmer temps and constant winds have failed to set up the water this summer, meaning that there is less stratification (layering) of the water. When the water sets up it helps eliminate water. This forces fish into cooler water and makes it easier to put our baits at just the right levels. Righ now the fish are scattered from the surface to the bottom.

We are catching fish daily, and we are getting into some really nice Kings...the kings are running 4-6 lbs over last summers fish easily. Kings pushing the high teens ans low 20's are being boated daily. Lake trout and steelhead are also coming to the boat daily.

Hot flashers continue to be green with slick glow, white with slick glow and mountain dew with green, blue bubble and pickled sunshine flies.

Spoons.. mixed veggie, doc, lemon ice and several of the moonshine spoons.

The ace high plug has also taken fish in the early am.

Good luck on the water

Call 231.250.9745 to set up a trip.

The fishing over the holiday weekend proved to be challenging still. The key has still been to put down a good mix of baits at different levels and be ready to capitalize on the bites you get. Starting early has also been a big part. The early bite has been good but short lived.

The fishing friday through Sunday was about the same...but Monday it proved once again...It is never quite the same two days in a row. Monday my crew of 3 put a serious wacking on lots of big kings. It felt really good to see those big hog Kings ripping up my gear !

Hot baits the last few trips have been

Spoons... DOC,fireball,mixed veggies,frozen monkey,coyote,nbk

Flashers... green, black, white blades with glow tape, green krinkle or pickled sunshine flies, a few mirage flies also got bit.

good luck on the water !

June 29 2009

WE HAVE OPENINGS THIS WEEK AND THRU THE WEEKEND !

PLEASE CALL TO SET UP A DAY. 231.250.9745

The fishing Friday and Saturday was very typical of June in my boat. It is important to get and early start and make the best of the quick morning bite, because soon as the sun gets up and the bait spreads out the fish also scatter, making it more of a hunting game. We managed 11 fish on friday and 10 on Saturday and could not fish due to high west winds Sunday.

I fished North both days and found the best action from th 01's to the point early, then put it on a SW troll after the bite slowed down looking for a few more fish. Most or our big fish came on either meat rigs with white blades or green flies behind white blades. Spoons seem to be taking more of the trout and smaller kings.

hot spoons... flinstone coyote,DW SS in lemon ice, stinger D.O.C. SOG,green dolphin, Mooonshine blue jackel,Yeck froggy.

Best of luck on the water.

Capt. Jon

June 16 2009

Hit the water Tuesday with some great guys ! We fished north of Ludinton near the point and out deeper and found the action to be very steady. The water temps did warm up a bit and the break was about 50 down. I am sure the East winds have changed that already though. Although not the biggest fish of the season, we did get some nice lakers and couple bigger kings. A great batch of eaters for sure.

Hot baits were glow froggy Spin Doctor with a pickled sunshine fly,Flintstones coyote spoon, stinger jelly bean, lemon ice and a few others took a fish or two.

June 14 2009

The weekend fishing was kinda hit and miss..from other reports. The South wind should really help set things up for the next few days. I fished North at point and found the best fishing just south of the point, but it didnt last long, the best bite was from about 5:40 am till about 8 am. A pretty short window. The water we started in pushed north and things really warmed up on top.

Hot spoons were... SOG,moonshine-moonshine,purlpe kevorkian,NBK and yeck wart frog

Tuxedo meat rig deep took only one fish. Blue spindoctor with a blue ice fly also took a nice fish.

June 11 2009

Yes,Yes,Yes..... It has been a week or so since my last report. The truth is that not much overall has really changed. We are still getting some great catches on our charters. Although the size of the fish hasn't been as consistant, the numbers have still been there. But hey- thats June, a very typical pattern for us.

Fished the evening of the 10th ...... a good number of fish, the size was the biggest factor.. we got into the minno parade as far as Kings went... lots of fish under 4 lbs. A few nice Lake trout and a couple steelhead helped though.

The morning of the 11th... same water different story. A great number of nice Kings ... up to 18 lbs for us today. The bait moved in and the fish were hot on their tails. We fished north on the bank both trips, cold water and no real patterns.

Leadcore from 2- 12 colors, wire divers and riggers all did some damage, with cores having an overall edge... hot spoons- lemon ice, mixed veggies,SOG,moonshine-moonshine,jellybean,fireball. Black and white spindoctors with pickled sunshine flies. White 11" spindoctor with a chrome head pulling cutbait down around 100' also had its moments

May 31 2009

The fishing the last several days has stabilized. Although the water still seems cool..the fish are here ! Look for warmer temps and you will find both bait and hungry salmon. Hopefully we get a few days with constant winds and warmer temps and things will really take off. The fish this weekend seemed to be in the upper 50'. Lots of bait in the fish Saturday, nothing in the fish on Sunday.

Hot setups the last couple days have been meat rigs with big flashers on low wires and full cores. Fishcatchers is white and black with slick glow tape with green flies in the am. As for spoons... dolphins, mixed vegies,DOC,and a few custom taped stingers.

May 26 2009

The fishing has cooled a bit with the 4 days of north---to east winds we had in ludington over the weekend. But is still pretty good all things considered, the size of the fish is still there as well as a good mix of salmon, steelhead and lake trout.

hot setups have been  brighter spoons (oranges, greens, yellows) on various leadcores. White flashers with green or mirage flies on low divers, spoons on high divers and a mix on the riggers.

The water is cool from the top to the bottom, you may take one fish 90' down and the next may be on a 3 color leadcore. So it pays to cover all the water under the boat.

To book a day please call us @ 231.250.9745

May 17 2009

The fishing continues to be RED HOT !!

If you are putting off booking a charter for any reson please wait no longer, the fishing in Ludington is as good as it can ever be ! Even better, alot less pressure on the fish and the fish seem to be more willing to keep biting !

For those that think Ludington is more of a summer fishery, you are very mislead, we have great fishing all summer. now is the time to book a day or two!

The fish seem to be in large pockets, based on water temps. Once you find them its game on !! doubles...tripples ! A good mix of flashers and spoons are the ticket! Hottest spoon for us today was the Mixed veggie by stinger in all 3 sizes ! Flashers with mirage flies were hot first thing, then blue bubble took off for us !

Hope to see you on the water

Sept 3 2008

Wow its already over for me .... I begin on the river this week. This marks the end of my Big Lake season. There are still plenty of great days left on the lake and some great captains waiting to get you on the water and into fish. This season was definatly impacted by the weak economy and high fuel costs. And the fishing was effected by the crazy unstable weather patterns we had this summer in Michigan, lots of wind and cooler temps never let the lake set up in Ludington. In summary... less trips and a couple less fish per trip, but none the less a very good summer over all.

I want to thank everyone that fished with me this summer and all my friends up in Ludington for making it another wonderful season !!

Thanks !!!!

Its never too early to get your dates booked for next season, call or email for openings. 231.250.9745

See you next season !

Keep in mind I am now guiding the river and I do have a few open dates...go to www.riversbendguideservice.com for more info and current river fishing reports !

Sorry for the delay in getting a new report up, I have been very busy on the lake and away from the computer. The fishing has not been red hot but has been very steady. The morning bite has been fast and furious some days.....almost non existant the next.. Some boats are doing well very shallow. The most consistant water has been out deep 200-400 fow with a mixed bag of Kings,Cohos,Steelhead, and Lake trout. Spoon programs for the mix, flashers and flies for the Kings. Lots of boats fishing PM lake early and late.

Call 231/250-9745 to get a day on the water with "HATTRICK" charters.

There are fish all over ...PM lake, the channel and pier heads are producing for those willing to dare the combat zone. North to the point and out and south in front of the projects in 100 fow.The best baits have been J- plug type baits, silver hordes and ace highs. Make sure it GLOWS !. Flashers in various colors with green and blue flies. Moonshine spoons durring the low light times of the day have also been decent. We are needing a few days of south winds to set up the offshore fishing and help the numbers. Oranges and reds up high for steelies have been good also.
