Sept 2 2010 I have only about a week or so left on the Hattrick before I switch gears and spend the rest of my fall guiding inland for salmon and steelhead. My last charter is Sept 11.
The fishing on the lake was good this week for those able to fish, high winds kept many boats moored up. Big Big winds this weekend should hopefully push fish nearshore and get the peirheads and harbors fired up . Look for an exciting finish to this summers fishing in the coming weeks as 95 percent of the fall run is still sitting in the lake!
Big Plugs, flashers and flies and meat rigs should help fill your cooler!
If you are looking for a fishing trip on either the lake or river in the coming weeks please give us a call! | | Aug 22 2010 Prime time for BIG KINGS !
Well, as expected, the high winds and big waves have shuffled the water and got the fish on the bite! Things returned to normal with good catches the last several charters. The fish have been big and fiesty ! King's to 18 lbs, coho's to 10 lbs and some nice steelies!!
The fishing should hold for the next several weeks as the big fish are starting to hone in on their home rivers to begin the fall spawning migration. Still no big numbers of fish near shore or at the pier heads, but plenty of fish offshore in deeper waters both north and south of Ludington.
Plugs, plugs and more plugs as of late....glow and green ladderback! Moonshine spoons, Mag silver Streak glow mixed veggies ,green dolphin, hot lobster have been good! Mostly white slick tape and pickled sunshine flies, black paddles have also had their times.
We still have open dates.....please call or email for more info!! | | Aug 16 2010 Weekday and weekend openings still available!!
The wind is blowing here in Ludington !! Winds to over 30 knots have been pushing water around the last 24 hours, this should help get the fishing to back where we all want it. There are lots of frustrated captains here, that are more than ready to start slamming the fish again. The fish are here...warm summer temps have kept the fish in the lake and out of the river.
Look for the fishing to turn on big time the next few days as the winds die down and things settle.
The fishing late last week and thru Saturday AM was yeilding 5-7 fish per charter with a mix of year class Kings,Coho's,Steelhead and Lake trout. Not huge numbers, but what can you do.....cant make them bite!
Hot baits-
Mag silver streak glow mixed veggies, hot lobster, kevorkian,Yeck Fireball's and starbursts took several steelhead. Big flashers in whites and blacks with green and mirage flies.
| | Aug 13 2010 The fishing the last few days has not been what it was....very frustrating, marking tons upon tons of fish, but the bite has been sporadic to say the least....The first light bite has been much slower, thus making it even harder to get the fish to go after sun up. Hopefully it will get back to what it was very soon.
The same baits are still producing, just not the action that they were. The fish just need to go on the feed a bit more and the coolers will be filling up once again. | | Aug 10 2010 PRIME TIME !!
Not much has changed the last week or so.....the fishing continues to be great! The morning bite has been the best most days, but sunset has been getting its fair share of action. Look for great fishing from here on out as big kings stage nearshore waiting for the right conditions to start making their runs up the river.
Hot baits havent changed much...mag silver streak chilly willys in white, gree, blue. Yeck modified blue dolphins. Yeck frogs. Plugs in glows, blues, greens and pearls. Big flashers in white, green with pickled sunshine flies.
YES ! we have openings for this month! Please call or email if you would like to spend some time on the water with us. | | Aug 1 2010 Prime time is here !
The fishing in Ludington has been great the last week or so. Good catches of mostly Kings, with a few steelhead, lake trout and cohos mixed in. Although the action has been a bit scattered ,setting down on the fish has helped a bunch....if you dont set down on the keep searching as they have been in groups, usually surrounding bait clouds.
Hot baits this week...mag silver streak chilly willys in white, gree, blue. Yeck modified blue dolphins. Yeck frogs. Plugs in glows, blues, greens and pearls. Big flashers in white, green with pickled sunshine flies.
YES ! we have openings for this month! Please call or email if you would like to spend some time on the water with us. | | July 22 2010 Fishing in Ludington is still going well, good numbers of salmon with a few steelhead mixed in are a daily catch as of late Although the weather has been a bit unstable the fishing has been steady. The morning bite has been fast and furious most days but short lived.Getting out early has been key. The afternoon trips are also fishing well, with a steady pick until sundown then a good bite at sunset.
Dates are booking up, but we still have plenty of openings for those wishing to spend some time on the water testing their skills against our great lakes fishery.
Hot set ups ....big flashers in white, gree, black with green flies,Mag silver streak hot lobsters, papa smurfs and green dolphins. PLUGS have been awesome at times, glows and greens are going good on 225-400' coppers.
Please call us for a great day on the water! | | July 18 2010 The fishing in Ludington has improved big time the last week or two, which is pretty normal for July. The weather on the other hand has been anything but perfect...lots of storms and winds have forced many charters to either re-book for another day or just plain miss a day on the water with us. Hopefully the weather will settle down and allow us to keep spending our days on the water with great people.
As far as whats hot.....pretty much anything and everything has been working well...from meat rigs to spoons. Best spoons have been Mag silver streak hot lobster, pink panties, glow mixed veggies, green dolphin, moon shines in various patterns,Yeck pearl lazers, fireballs and frogs. flashers in green, white and black with pickled sunshine flies. Various meat rigs.
Please give us a call for a great day on the water! | | July 8 2010 Sorry for the lack of big racks of fish lately....truth is that the charters we have been able to fish, when the wind hasn't been blowing (4-6 foot waves are no fun for un seasoned charter clients) have not yielded huge catches...it has been a bit tough, with only 4-8 fish a charter....hardly impressive fishing to say the least. Things are changing now and it seems like we may have turned the corner for the summer and the fishing should remain hot from here on out.
Flashers and flies, meat rigs and glow spoons have all been producing good action. Flashers in black, white, green with pickled sunshine flies have been great on low wires and deep riggers, moonshines up higher and meat rigs on riggers and deep coppers.
We still have plenty of openings from here on out so please dont hesitate to call. | | June 26 2010 We have openings for this up coming 4th of July weekend !
The fishing the last few trips has been all but stellar....the big boxes of mature Kings we were seeing a week to ten days aro are not currently happening. A little too much south - west winds have forced warm water into the Ludington area and put the fish off the bite. Still marking a ton of fish on the bank.....just cant figure out how to get them to go. Flashers and flies seem to be the best for bigger fish, still some dinks around hitchhiking on the spoons. Hopefully this weeks cooler temp and change of wind direction get things fired up again.....till then I would suggest going west.....way out and looking for some type of temp change or thermal out there. | | June 18 2010 Summer like temps and summer like fishing the last few days. The Kings are getting bigger and stronger. Better catches of larger Kings and a mix of steelhead and lake trout. The fish have been more active at low light and then going deeper as the sun comes up...pretty typical stuff for the most part.
Still mostly a spoon bite (oranges, reds up high, greens and blues down low), but flashers and flies.....even meat rigs are getting some attention from the larger fish.
Please give us a call for a day on the water.
| | June 7 2010 The fishing in Ludington the last few days has been decent, The fish seem to be scattered from north to south and from top to botton. The keys have been to cover large amounts of water and pay attention to your speed, a faster troll has been key. The hot spoons have been Stinger standard sizes in coyote and doc. Yeck fireballs and pearl lazers have been great on cores. Early and late the flashers-fly combos have produced some of the larger kings.
Please gives us a call if you are looking for a great time on the water. | | June 1 2010 The Hattrick had great fishing over the weekend ! Decent catches of mixed yr. class Kings,Lakers,Steelhead and a really nice 12lb. Brown trout. We are in the transition into our summer fishery now and a good mixed catch will be the norm. Look for steelhead and trout numbers to mix in with Kings ranging from 2-20lbs.
Dead flat seas made leadcores and long copper lines the hot producers. Flashers on riggers and low divers were good early, after sun up it was pretty much a spoon bite. Oranges, red, yellows up high. blue, green dolphins down low.
Please give us a call to get a day on the water! | | May 27 2010 MEMORIAL WEEKEND OPENINGS STILL AVAILABLE!!!
The fishing this week has stabilized with the warmer temps as expected. Summer like conditions have fast forwarded our fishing to put it right on track. Good catches of mixed yr class kings, steelhead and lake trout.
Look for the fish to gather on structure and offshore temp breaks this weekend.
A few fish on flashers and flies, but still mostly a spoon bite. Oranges and reds up high, yellows, green and blues down low. Moonshine spoons have been good early and late!! | | May 24 2010 The fishing in Ludington continues to be streaky....changing weather patters and winds are moving the water on a daily basis, thus moving the fish. The key has been to just cover water and look for breaks or bait. Recent catches have included a good mix of kings, steelhead and lake trout. Look for the fishing to heat up this week as steady weather and warmer days heat things up a bit.
It has still been pretty much a spoon bite,DOC,dolphins, lemon ice, fireballs have been good. The fish are scattered from the top to the bottom.
Plenty of openings over the next week and thru memorial weekend. | | May 15 2010 Finally the waters have settled again allowing the fleet to get back on the water. The fish are scattered due to the cold water that has settled in on Ludington, but they are here, some boats did well today others struggled...we were in the middle of the pack, with a nice cooler of fish. Look for a couple warmer days with a south wind to get the fish pilling back into ludville.
Spoons are the name of the game right now, leadcores, coppers, riggers divers all getting bit. | | May 4 2010 The Hattrick is in the water and ready to go! After a great season on the river I am looking forward to an even better season on the lake! The fishing this spring has been awesome, with warmer than normal water temps the brown and king salmon fishing has been very good, with kings pushing 20lbs already.
Please call or email to get a day or two on the water with us this season. | | April 8 2010 I am in the final weeks of the spring run of steelhead and looking forward to getting back on the Hattrick the first week of May. Things on the river have been going well and very busy, but I am really looking forward to getting on the big blue lake and chasing some shoreline browns and open water salmon and trout. The Hattrick is tuned up and ready to go!
We will once again be running our May Special 1-4 anglers for only $400 for a 6 hour charter. The Brown trout fishing has been great the last few weeks and there have even been some early Kings and Coho's mixed in.
Please call or email to get your day on the water on the "Hattrick"
Summer dates are also booking, now is the time to reserve your day! | | Feb 1 2010 Wow...already February !!
In less than three months the "HATTRICK" will once again be in the water ready to fish! This season should fish really close to last year, with good catches and bigger fish! Its never too soon to call to book a day or two on the lake with us.
See you on the water ! | | Sept 7 2009 Am openings on Sept 9,10
Well..... not much has changed....except that the fishing has gotten a little tougher with the clam seas, recent full moon and lack af the slightest bit of wind.
Big fish, heavy coolers and tons of fun on the big lake right now. There seems to be very few fish pushing thru the pier heads right now,the water is just too warm.Look for the fishing to stay very good on the lake for the next couple weeks. I myself only have untill Sept 10 to fish the lake then its off to the river for the next several months. www.riversbendguideservice.com
Glow plugs, meat rigs, flashers flies....spoons...its all working right now! | | Aug 25 2009 Morning openings on Aug 30,Sept 1,2,3, Afternoon trips also available.
This past weekend brought lots of WIND to ludington, this kept me from running several charters....its just not fun fishing in 5-8' seas. It also brought a big change in the water. The fish moved a bit and it took the fleet a day to locate them once we were able to get on the water.
Sunday morning's trip was tough, only a few bites, but Sunday nights trip was much better with 9 fish in the box by evenings end. The morning was a searching mission for most,as the conditions had not allowed for much fishing days prior. Monday was the best morning bite I have had this year, we boxed a dozen fish by 8:15 am and had a couple of young fishers that were ready to go in and get their feet on solid ground.
Just about everything is working..
glow plugs, moonshine spoons, mag silver streak hot lobster is still killing a few in the early morning. flasher and flies.....greens turned on along with blacks still getting it done. | | Aug 19 2009
Things continue to go well in Ludington this week. The fishing has been fairly consistent with good to great catches. This week we have seen the return of some very nice adult Kings to the mid 20's !! There are some huge coho's also pushing double digits as well as steelhead and lake trout.
Hot baits
Meat rigs with black, white blades with glow tape and either red or white glow teasers and matching heads.
Moonshine spoons in various patterns,Silver streak Mag hot lobster has been strong too
Flashers and flies also getting it done on deep riggers and divers. | | August 16 2009 Due to cancelation I have Aug 19,20 open as well as am trips available on the 21st,23rd,25th,31st. As well as afternoon trips are also available.
The fishing still continues to be good to really good depending on where you set up each day. The most consistent seems to be straight out in the 36-39 line, but the bank has also been going first thing in the am. The morning bits has not been fast and furious as af late, more or less a steady bite on my boat. none the less we are coming in with some really nice fish each day.
Hot baits...
Meat rigs have been great ! black, white blades with glow tape. Moonshine spoons first thing in the am on high divers and riggers, Big tomic plugs in glow green splatter. Yeck mag spoons and silver streak mag spoons esp. the hot lobster ! that spoon has been hot on my 300' copper. | | August 13 209 The fishing the last few days has been awesome !! although the fish are still deep, the bite is ON!! I have been running alot of meat rigs and slamming the fish on them off the riggers, divers and 400' copper rigs.
Look for things to stay pretty consistent from here out,as it is time for the kings to return to stage off their spawning rivers.
We still have some prime openings..... please call us to get a day on the water with us. 231.250.9745 | | Aug 9 2009 We have openings ****Aug 15-18 ****then a few others scattered here and there, Afternoon trips are also available
The fishing in Ludington continues to follow a typical August pattern... Though the fish were a bit moody earlier in the week, most likely due to the full moon and clear skies allowing the fish to feed day and night. There have been good numbers of bait in the area and the fish have been munching down on magnum alwives.
There has been good fishing both north on the bank and south all the way to little point. Dont be afraid to fish DEEP !!! Many fish coming well over 100' down.
Hot baits....
Glow spoons, glow plugs, glow flashers - flies ! pretty basic.....put it down if it glows !! and let the fish tell you what they want.
Hot spoon of the day was a Mag silver streak hot lobster, hot flasher...green slick glow, green flies, wonderbread double glow ace highs are also hot ! | |
